The Intercept has received top secret internal documents that show that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has spent years trying to infiltrate Apple devices. Tactics attempted by the CIA include modifying Xcode to place vulnerabilities in apps, modifying the Mac OS X updater to install keyloggers, and attempting to extract iPhone Group ID keys by analyzing the devices' electromagnetic emissions. It's unknown how effective the CIA's techniques have been.
