Symptoms

The Adobe Acrobat Reader application stops to respond. This issue is observed on a Server console, RDP, and ICA Connections versions 9.1, 9.5, and 10.1.0.

This issue exists only with a 64-bit server. The Adobe Acrobat Reader application that is installed on 32-bit server is functioning correctly.

Cause

Several Adobe Acrobat Reader .dll files have conflict with Citrix Memory Management feature.

Resolution

Complete the following procedure to resolve the issue:

  1. Exclude the following files from Memory Optimization that has stopped Adobe Acrobat Reader on the 64-bit Windows 2003 Servers:
    Note
: Ensure that you enable the Use farm settings option.
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\AdobeXMP.dll
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\BIBUtils.dll
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\logsession.dll
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\LogTransport2.dll
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\sqlite.dll
      Note
: Try to include the C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\AcroRd32.exe file, even though this file is not listed by ADSCleaner Tool.

  1. Reset the CPU/Memory Optimization of the affected XenApp servers to the farm default settings.

  1. Clean the streams of the affected XenApp servers with ADSCleaner tool. Refer to CTX108542 - ADSCleaner 2.0.

Use a non-administrative user in an ICA session to ensure that Adobe Acrobat Reader is functioning.

More Information

Refer to CTX106023 - Virtual Memory Optimization Feature, to know more about the list of applications that do not work with Citrix Virtual Memory Optimization.
