Guest Post: Announcing New Jenkins Plugin to Manage Habitat Packages
// Chef Blog

Jenkins users can now better manage their IT infrastructure and reap the benefits of the latest open-source plugin accessible from the Jenkins Update Center and source code on GitHub.

After working with a few Jenkins + Habitat clients, my team at Indellient and I realized we could create an improved experience within the build, promotion, and management lifecycle of Habitat packages by significantly reducing the time it takes to execute these steps. And thus, the Jenkins plugin was born!

What you get with the plugin

The plugin allows users to access and manage Habitat packages and their lifecycles from Jenkins. It was designed to unify existing infrastructure under one modern and scalable platform and provide new value to DevOps teams.

This plugin will help:

  • manage the build and promotion lifecycle of a user's Habitat application packages,
  • provide a standard way to centrally manage Habitat packages and,
  • operationalize packages across an organization.

Bonus: it will eliminate manual processes, reduce time and improve visibility across the organization.

Strengthening the Jenkins/Chef community

Our goal is to deliver cutting edge technology solutions that help organizations move with greater velocity by reducing the many points of friction in the traditional software development process.

Scott Ford, Principal Strategic Solutions Architect at Chef, had this to say about the new plugin, "We have been working with Indellient on several joint accounts. The work they have done with Chef and Habitat is impressive. An example of this is the Jenkins Habitat plug-in that they have open sourced. This will provide an easy route for our customers to leverage Jenkins for building and promoting applications packaged with Habitat".

We are happy to be part of this great community and look forward launching more solutions!

Watch this tutorial to learn how the plugin will work.
