ControlUp + Citrix: Virtual Healthcare Access Guaranteed

Citrix is getting ready for HIMSS 2024 with a guest blog series featuring insights and innovations from some of our key partners. This post is written by Michelle Olmstead, Marketing Manager at ControlUp.

You can visit Citrix and ControlUp at HIMSS booth #3212 to hear more about how the partnership is helping to redefine healthcare IT, empower providers, and enhance patient care.

The healthcare industry has seen significant increases in the use of technologies to improve patient care, especially over the past few years. One area of growth is reliable and secure virtualization solutions that enable access to patient data and applications from any location at any time. This is where ControlUp and Citrix come in, providing innovative solutions for healthcare professionals and patients. We are delighted to join forces once again with Citrix at HIMSS, showcasing our commitment to enhancing healthcare and achieving success for a secure and healthy future.

ControlUp is a performance management and monitoring solution designed to manage virtualization, physical endpoints, and unified communications technology. It guarantees uptime with automated maintenance, real-time troubleshooting, and efficient resource usage. ControlUp can help ensure the reliability and performance of Citrix infrastructure as ControlUp’s remediation capabilities detect issues before they are reported to the helpdesk. This keeps consequential technology available when patient care is vital.

Case Study

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust delivers essential care through two major district general hospitals, Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH). The trust is supported by a team of 7,500 clinical and support staff who oversee the care for over 150,000 emergency attendances and 800,000 outpatient appointments every year.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS strategically deployed ControlUp to enhance its capabilities in monitoring and managing its expanding array of Citrix virtual servers and user sessions running on these servers. This move was motivated by the need for heightened visibility and control over their front-line users. The urgency of this decision was underlined by the fact that their Citrix infrastructure played a pivotal role in supporting their newly implemented electronic patient record system (EPR), which demanded uninterrupted availability.

“ControlUp’s monitoring technology for our thin client devices and Citrix virtual infrastructure delivers insight into both physical and virtual challenges during the initial deployment and offers essential monitoring and resolution capabilities for continuous service support,” Matt Benson, Senior Technical Architect, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS.

ControlUp’s monitoring capabilities provided insight into Wi-Fi availability problems that prevented remote EPR access from mobile physician computing carts. They assisted IT in not only finding the cause of the carts but also ensuring a reliable service to determine Wi-Fi issues in the future quickly.

“With ControlUp monitoring and automation in place, we reduced the number of service desk tickets by an average of 100 per week,” said Benson. “As a result, it significantly enhanced the user experience when working with the new EPR system.”

Meet us at Citrix Booth #3212 to see how ControlUp’s VDI & DaaS management platform can help IT reimagine healthcare and learn more about our successful Gloucestershire Hospitals deployment.
