Embracing the change: Default migration to new Citrix UI in April

As we approach a significant milestone in our journey toward a modernized user interface (UI), we’re excited to announce that starting April 2, 2024, the new Citrix UI will be enabled by default for every user leveraging the cloud-based UI! This strategic move follows our commitment to enhancing user experiences and aligning with the evolving needs of the Citrix Workspace app. The streamlined interface, enhanced features, and improved navigation will become the standard, setting the stage for a more intuitive and efficient Citrix experience.

In anticipation of this change, we want to remind you that we’ve provided a six-month window since our General Availability (GA) last year. This period has allowed you to explore, test, and seamlessly transition your users to the new UI. Your valuable feedback has been instrumental in shaping the enhancements and features.

Enabling the New UI

Transitioning to the new UI  is a breeze for end users. We’ve introduced “coach marks” within the UI – pop-up messages guiding users through the changes. These coach marks provide a welcome message and a guided tour, ensuring a seamless transition for your users.

To experience the new UI seamlessly, end users won’t need to perform any upgrade or configuration and will be automatically switched to the new UI. However, it’s essential to note a couple of scenarios:

  • Automatic Transition Browser Cache Consideration: In certain instances where the old UI might be cached in the browser, users may need to refresh the page to ensure they are accessing the latest interface.
  • Native App Users: For Mac, Linux, and Windows Citrix Workspace apps, disconnecting and relaunching the app will load the new UI, requiring two disconnects for completion. For iOS and Android devices, simply disconnecting the app and relaunching will load the new UI. On ChromeOS, users will see the new UI reflected upon reloading the browser.

By following those simple steps, users can seamlessly transition to and fully explore the enhanced features of the new Citrix UI.

What’s new and what’s coming

We are continuing to enhance the experience based on your feedback. In case you missed it, our previous blog detailed the evolution of the new UI and the benefits of transitioning. Take a closer look here.

Admin feedback has been instrumental in shaping the new Citrix UI. We continue to make additional enhancements. For example, administrators can now disable the simple view for all users from the workspace configuration. Disabling the simple view ensures navigation tabs are always displayed. To make this adjustment, administrators can follow these simple steps: Log in to the admin console > Navigate to the hamburger menu and select “Workspace configuration” > Choose the “Customize” option, then select “Preferences” > Scroll down to the “Always display navigation tabs” setting and disable it.

Additionally, in response to user feedback, we’re actively working on implementing enhancements to our Citrix interface. These refinements will be seamlessly integrated into upcoming releases. Here are some of the enhancements that are coming soon:

  • Enhanced Search Results: In our commitment to making your digital workspace more efficient, we’re working on an enhancement where search results will now include categories. This empowers users to distinguish between different apps belonging to various categories. The results will feature a convenient dropdown menu, enabling users to take further actions like favoriting and accessing app descriptions.
  • Instantaneous UI Rendering: We understand the value of time when accessing digital resources. To further optimize user experiences, we are parallelizing many startup processes, including bridge setup and authentication handshakes. This enhancement aims to render the UI within milliseconds, significantly reducing the current 3~5 seconds spinner delay.
  • Activity Manager Hibernate and Resume: As we gear up for the default enablement, we want to assure you that our focus remains on enhancing the new UI and improving the on-premises StoreFront experience. Transition to the new Citrix UI and stay tuned for exciting features in the pipeline.

Get started today!

As you can see, the enhancements to the Citrix UI reflect our dedication to continuous improvement. If you don’t want to wait for the auto transition, you can start using the new UI with Activity Manager today by enabling it from Workspace Configuration > Customize > Features> Workspace experience focused on apps and desktops. Stay updated with our product docs for the latest information, and thank you for being part of this journey toward a more intuitive and efficient Citrix Workspace app.
