With latest versions of Veeam Backup & Replication it is possible to backup Microsoft Entra ID to enhance the protection of cloud services used by your Organization.
Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) is Microsoft’s cloud-based identity and access management service. It helps organizations manage user identities, secure access to cloud applications, and protect resources.
Retrieve the Tenant ID in Entra ID
Using your preferred browser, log in to the Microsoft Entra ID portal admin portal to retrieve your Tenant ID.
Once logged in, navigate to Home and copy the Tenant ID.

Add Microsoft Entra ID in Veeam
To backup Microsoft Entra ID, access the Veeam console and go to the Inventory area. Enter the Microsoft Entra ID section and click Add Microsoft Entra ID Tenant.

If you do not have a General Proxy configured within your Veeam infrastructure, you will receive an error message.

If a General Proxy is available, the configuration wizard will open. Paste the previously copied Tenant ID and optionally add a Description. Click Next.

Click Cache to specify the Cache repository to use. Click OK then Next.

Select the Create a new account option to allow Veeam to create the application used to communicate with Azure.

Copy the displayed Passcode then click the link https://ift.tt/QBmzvsS to login to Azure.

Paste the copied code into the browser and click Next.

Enter the account credentials used to log in to your Tenant and click Next.

Type the Password and click Sign in.

Enter the code generated by your Authenticator app (MFA) and click Verify.

Click Continue.

Close the browser.

Return to the Veeam wizard and click Apply.

Microsoft Entra ID will now be added to Veeam. Click Next when done.

Click Finish to exit the wizard.

The Microsoft Entra ID site has now been successfully added.

Create the Backup Job
Go to the Home area and expand Jobs. Right click Backup and select Microsoft Entra ID > Tenant.

Enter a Name for the new Backup Job and optionally a Description. Click Next.

If you have multiple Tenants, select the Tenant to protect and specify the Retention policy.

If encryption is required by corporate policies, click Advanced and check the option Enable backup data encryption. Click OK then Next.

Configure the desired Schedule and click Apply.

Enable the Run the job when I click Finish then click Finish.

Backup Microsoft Entra ID
Once the the Backup Job has been created, it will start immediately.

The backup process begins.

After few minutes the backup is completed successfully. Click OK to close the window.

The backup can be found under Backups > Disk.

Restore Microsoft Entra ID
To perform a restore, right-click the previously backed-up Tenant and select Restore.

A list of backed-up items is displayed.

To restore an object, select it and click Restore > Full restore.
