Symptoms

A XenDesktop 5 Virtual Desktop Agent (VDA) fails to register with a XenDesktop 4 Desktop Delivery Controller (DDC).

Cause

The Default port for XenDesktop 4 VDA registrations is 8080. The default port for XenDesktop 5 registrations is 80.

Resolution 1

Change the registration port on your XenDesktop 4 DDC to port 80. Refer to the Knowledge Center article CTX122542 - How to Change the Desktop Delivery Controller's Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) Port for more information.

Resolution 2

Change the registration port on your XenDesktop 5 VDAs via a group policy to 8080. Refer to the Knowledge Center article CTX130002 - How to Change Registration Port for XenDesktop 5 Desktop Delivery Controller and Virtual Desktop Agent for more information.

More Information

The upgrade and migration section for XenDesktop states the following:

Virtual Desktop Agent

You must upgrade all existing virtual desktops to the XenDesktop 5 Virtual Desktop Agent before they can be managed by a XenDesktop 5 controller. XenDesktop 5 virtual desktops can, however, be managed by XenDesktop 4 delivery controllers, see
